A Decade In The Making … Sort Of
F-Droid is something not everyone might be familiar with, a rather elderly alternative to the Google Play Store which has been around for more than 10 years. Unfortunately, it has also gone without an update in 10 years and so the interface has become rather clunky and difficult to navigate. F-Droid 2 has been rebuilt from the ground up using Kotlin Compose and is far more familiar looking and responsive. It also now offers thousands of open source apps.
There are several benefits to checking out F-Droid 2.0, not least of which is that it doesn’t track your clicks nor bombard you with so many on-screen ads it’s hard to find the place to click to install the app you are trying to get. In addition F-Droid has streamlined sideloading apps to simply clicking Install on F-Droid and again in a system pop-up instead of the scary messages the Play Store bombards you with.
The search has also been improved and will find apps based on their descriptions as well as the name, something that is a very nice change from the Play Store.
