The Totally Not A Glorified Chromebook starts at $899
Google is releasing what they would like you to believe is a brand new class of mobile computer, called a Googlebook. It is not a Chromebook because it has real internal storage and Gemini. Indeed they’ve included Magic Pointer, which summons Gemini when you wiggle your cursor, thus putting Gemini in charge of finding your mouse pointer when you lose it. As well, the materials the shell is constructed of is fancier than a Chromebook, and both touchpad and screen are fancier as well.
You can chose between a Core Ultra 5 or Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor, and the base model comes with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. You can order a more impressively specced machine, but it will likely be $1300 or more. That price tag means the Googlebook goes from being a rather expensive Apple Neo competitor to a poor shadow of a MacBook Air.
Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, and Asus have been convinced to try releasing at least one Googlebook model, we shall see how they are received.
