The Steam Frame has arrived, if you are Ars Technica, otherwise all you can do is register to get in line for an opportunity to buy one sometime down the road. The majority of the weight of the 440g Steam Frame is in the back, in the 21.6Wh battery that sits on the back of your skull which Ars found made it feel lighter than they expected. The front housed the optics and processing power, which offer each eye it’s own 2160 x 2160 screen with a maximum refresh rate of 144Hz and together give you a 110-degree FOV. There are also small external cameras so you can glimpse at your surroundings without taking of the googles.
The headset has 256GB on the base model, add an extra $240 to upgrade that to 1TB and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with
16GB unified LPDDR5X RAM onboard. As you’d expect it is running SteamOS and you can either play on that hardware or use the 6GHz Wi-Fi USB dongle to connect to a real PC to power your gaming.
