be quiet! Dark Power Pro 14 IO, For Those That Want A ‘Smart’ Power Supply

The IO Center Might Make This A Software Defined PSU

Power supplies are overly simplistic for today’s world.  They barely have RGB capabilities, you can’t control them from your phone, there’s no internet connection to push annoying firmware updates and people yell at you if you try to open them up to play with the insides.  If that sentence makes any sense to you then be quiet! and complain no more.

Behold, the Dark Power Pro 14 IO which comes with a software suite called the IO Center.  This software will allow you to do previously unthinkable things, such as toggle between multiple 12V rails and single 12V rail operation on a running system.  The same is true of the fan configuration, switch between semi-passive and continuously active cooling at the push of a mouse.  It does also offer an in depth look at your power usage and such details as total output power, and calculated efficiency which could be interesting to know, however it can’t keep track of the temperature or voltage distribution of the two 12V-2×6 outputs present on the Dark Power Pro 14 IO.

Sarcasm about making a PSU overly complicated aside, Guru3D found the actual operation of the Dark Power Pro 14 IO to be top notch, with no weak points in power delivery.  The only warning they offer is that the software control adds a rather large bump to the price tag and sticker shock could be a concern.
