After releasing an epic trailer showing off its story and original monsters, Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance has returned to uploading daily trailers showing off how this action-hunting game’s 14 weapon types will be enhanced by the new Boost Bracer mechanic.
The third trailer in this series focuses on the improvements for Dual Blades, the fastest melee weapon type in the game, where you rip and tear monsters to shreds with a pair of daggers.

The Dual Blades is one of the best weapon types in the game as they’re extremely, do a lot of damage in short bursts, and can make the player briefly invincible if you dodge enemy attacks at the last second while using the weapon’s unique “Demon Mode”.
However, when paired with this DLC expansion’s Boost Bracer mechanic, Dual Blades can the player into a monster. This is because the Boost Bracer grants Dual Blades, with what we can tell from this trailer:
- A new Boost Driver attack where you spin towards an enemy and knock them off their feet while they’re attacking, as it counts as an Offset attack.
- The Boost Driver also fills up your Archdemon Mode gauge.
- Once you fill the Boost Gauge by hitting enemies with Boost Driver attacks, you can activiate it to double the attack speed of Dual Blades, have each strike deal multiple hits with increased range, and unlock new combo attacks that end in a nasty finisher where you hold both blades in one hand to deliver a savage uppercut.
- Additionally, activating the Boost Gauge will allow you to jump in the air during a Perfect Dodge so you can perform aerial attacks when you spin across a monster’s body to rip them up with Dual Blades, without needing to use Focus Mode attacks or jumping off ledges and hills.
Windows Central’s take
Dual Blades ended up being my main weapon of choice when I tackled the endgame content of Monster Hunter Wilds’ base game, as its insane attack speed proved invaluable against tough monsters like Omega and Gogmazios.
After watching this trailer, I think I’m going to stick with Dual Blades in Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance because it looks amazing and brutal to use with the Boost Bracer’s enhancements.
I like how the Dual Blade’s normally graceful movements are replaced with berserker-style claw swipes while the Boost Gauge is activated. It kind of makes you feel like the Marvel superhero Wolverine, which I wouldn’t be surprised if that was intentional, considering Capcom spent decades making Marvel fighting games like the Marvel Vs. Capcom series.
Plus, considering we aren’t getting Insomniac’s Wolverine game on Xbox Series X|S and PC anytime soon, I’ll take these newly improved Dual Blades as a suitable substitute when Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance launches in 2027 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.
