Super Mario Sunshine has now been added to Switch Online’s GameCube library.
Nintendo announced last month that the 3D platformer was coming to Switch Online in August, and it’s now available to play on Switch 2 through the Nintendo Classics GameCube app.
The second 3D platformer starring Mario (after the seminal Super Mario 64), Sunshine sees Mario visiting Isle Delfino, where his vacation is interrupted by ‘Shadow Mario’, a villain vandalising the island with graffiti.
Mario is convicted for the mess, so to clear up his name he sets out to find out who Shadow Mario really is, while also using his F.L.U.D.D. water-spraying device to clean up the paint.
Super Mario Sunshine is considered the most divisive of Mario’s 3D platformers, with some criticising the camera, F.L.U.D.D. and Yoshi powers, and the design of some of the levels.
It was widely praised at the time of release, however, meaning its Metacritic score – which includes legacy reviews from publications at the time – stands at 92.
An HD version of Super Mario Sunshine was also included as part of the Super Mario 3D All-Stars compilation released on Switch in 2020, but this was a limited time release and was delisted seven months later, meaning this is now the cheapest way for Switch 2 owners to play the game.
There are now 10 GameCube games available on Switch 2
The addition of Super Mario Sunshine brings the total number of GameCube titles on Switch Online up to 10, meaning the full list is now as follows:

- Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
- The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
- Luigi’s Mansion
- Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness
- Soulcalibur II
- Super Mario Strikers

Nintendo also previously announced that Pokémon Colosseum is coming to the library, but hasn’t yet confirmed its release date.
GameCube games are available to Switch 2 owners subscribed to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass service.
NES, SNES, Game Boy and Game Boy Colour games are available as part of the standard Switch Online subscription, which costs £3.49/€3.99/$3.99 for a one-month membership, £6.99/€7.99/$7.99 for a three-month membership, and £17.99/€19.99/$19.99 for a 12-month membership.
Switch Online’s Expansion Pack add-on, which is needed to play GameCube games on Switch 2, as well as Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance and Sega Mega Drive / Genesis games, costs $49.99 / £34.99 / €39.99 per year.
