Halo: Campaign Evolved finally launches today, in early access at least, and if you’re playing on PC and have an NVIDIA graphics card, then you might need this hotfix first.
Specifically, a stability issue has been highlighted for the RTX 50 series using the recent 610.xx version drivers, and since it launches today, a hotfix has been deployed rather than a whole new driver.
As it’s a hotfix, you won’t be able to just update it through the NVIDIA app on your PC; you’ll need to go to the dedicated support page to grab it and install it manually.
The hotfix is also worth grabbing for Path of Exile 2 players, as it addresses a frustrating issue players have been seeing in the game when running under DX12.
“[Path of Exile 2] Fixed intermittent long pauses that could occur after extended gameplay sessions in DX12 mode”
No other games are affected by this hotfix, so if you’re not planning to play either of them in the next week or two, you can hold off. NVIDIA will roll these fixes into its next regular driver release so you’ll get them fairly soon.
It’s also worth making sure you do a clean installation, which honestly, I’d recommend any time you install an updated driver. During the NVIDIA installation process there is a box you can check to do this, or you can use a tool like Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to remove the old ones first. I’ve seen some issues first-hand over time that were rectified from doing a proper clean installation, and it’s no extra work really to do.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is, of course, another remake of the first game in the legendary series. Beyond looking better, it’s actually coming with some fresh content, expanding the classic game, and for the first time folks on PlayStation will be able to see what all the fuss is about.
Early access begins today, July 23, with general access on all platforms and Xbox Game Pass beginning on July 28.
