Konami has released nearly 20 minutes of new gameplay footage from Silent Hill: Townfall.

The next entry in the publisher’s survival horror series, which is set for release on September 24, is developed by Scottish studio Screen Burn and is set in St Amelia, a fictional small fishing village based on a real village in Fife, Scotland.

The new footage is split into five chapters, and focuses on two sections from the game.

It firstly shows the player exploring the village of St Amelia, and demonstrates how they can use the CRTV device – Townfall’s version of the radio or phone from other Silent Hill games – to provide them with clues on where to go next.

It then shows the player visiting the house of Zoe, a nurse who lives in St Amelia. The game’s protagonist Simon has come to the town because he received a message from Zoe asking him to return to the island, even though he doesn’t recognise St Amelia and has never met her before.

This is followed by footage of Simon’s first encounter with one of the game’s monsters, as he hides behind a wall and uses the CRTV to track its position.

The footage then shifts to a section set in the Otherworld, the ‘alternate reality’ of the Silent Hill series, and shows Simon attacking enemies with a pistol, before exploring a tenement building there.

In a VGC preview of Silent Hill: Townfall, we said the game looked “authentically scary and authentically Scottish”, noting developer Screen Burn’s attention to detail.

“The use of old tech as a gameplay mechanic, paired with the paranormal goings on of the world of Silent Hill, is such a natural match,” we wrote. “For a series that seemed like it was destined to fade into obscurity outside of a dedicated fanbase, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill F and now Silent Hill: Townfall have injected a huge amount of life into the series.”
