A new StarCraft game announcement may be imminent, as Blizzard appears to be teasing something.
The official StarCraft website continues to show the same information on StarCraft Remastered that it has for a number of years, but it’s started glitching now.
The site’s background image has started flickering, as well as the Battle.net logo, suggesting that some interference is breaking through.
Given that Blizzcon is set to take place next week on September 12-13, it appears that Blizzard may be teasing that a new StarCraft announcement will be made during the show.
At the start of this year it was reported that Blizzard was developing a first-person shooter spin-off based in the StarCraft universe, and that it was likely to reveal the game during BlizzCon.
The existence of an in-development StarCraft shooter was first reported last year, in Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier’s book Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment.
According to the book, the project is being led by Ex-Far Cry boss Dan Hay, who left Ubisoft in 2021 after a decade at its Montreal studio, where he was credited for overseeing the Far Cry series during its most prosperous period.
It was also reported in February that a second StarCraft shooter may also be in the works, this time co-developed by Arc Raiders owner Nexon.
A report coming from South Korea claimed that Nexon’s shooter division had begun “full-scale development” of a new game utilizing the StarCraft IP.
Schreier then claimed the Nexon project was likely unrelated to the StarCraft shooter mentioned in his book, which would mean Blizzard is planning at least two such projects.
Blizzard has attempted to create a StarCraft shooter twice in the past, with projects codenamed Ghost and Ares, but both were cancelled.
