Last week, Rockstar released a remastered version of Red Dead Redemption 1, bringing the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the games up to modern standards.
The Xbox 360 version of the game was part of Microsoft’s backwards compatibility program, and already had FPS and resolution enhancements on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S owing to platform enhancements. This new version replaces that one, and Rockstar was offering it as a free upgrade for users on the old school version … however, the entitlements didn’t work for almost a full week.

We have confirmed that there was a period during which the discount for existing purchasers, as announced in the news article below, was not applied to the Xbox Series X|S versions, and that incorrect discount prices were set.

It’s another frustration exclusive to the Xbox platform, and we can only speculate as to why this keeps happening.
In recent interviews I’ve done with Tom Sala of The Falconeer fame and Dave O’shry of New Blood Interactive, one frustration emerging from them and other developers I’ve spoken to pertains to Microsoft’s backend for Xbox. On Steam, Valve expects publishers to handle their own sales and licensing entitlements. On Xbox, however, you have to go through an approval process.
Given that we’re close to the holiday season, it could be that Microsoft is operating on reduced staffing right now, which makes fixing these entitlement issues more difficult.
In any case, we’ll keep you updated on the situation with Yakuza Kiwami.
Yakuza is awesome
Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut is a re-release of a recent prequel to the main franchise, with Yakuza Kiwami 1 and 2 being remakes of the PlayStation 2 classics. The refreshes have upgraded visuals, new English dubbing, and a variety of additional enhancements, bringing them up to modern standards.
For users who owned the prior versions, they were supposed to be discounted upgrades. As of writing, the discounts aren’t yet available on Xbox. Here are the links you can check to see if the discounts are available for you yet (sign in with your Microsoft account).
We’ll keep you posted on when they’ll go live, but if you didn’t own them previously, they’re not too expensive. Both are $19.99 respectively, and offer a meaty amount of gameplay and infectious Japanese crime drama storytelling.
Sadly, the games aren’t available on Xbox Play Anywhere, but many of them are on Xbox Cloud Gaming.
