Nintendo has announced Kirby and the World Beyond, a brand new 3D adventure starring Kirby.
The game is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in Spring 2027, according to Nintendo.
Players can freely explore the game’s world using Kirby’s copy abilities.
The game will be released as part of the 35th Anniversary celebrations for Kirby, which will take place next year.
A trailer released for the game shows Kirby running around a field, using familiar copy abilities seen in previous Kirby games and climbing trees.
It also shows him gaining a large sword power-up, which he uses to cut a hole in the sky and bring it crashing down, as if it was a wall, revealing a new, expansive land behind it. This appears to be the titular World Beyond.
The last major Kirby platformer was Kirby and the Forgotten Land, which was released on Switch in 2022 and was the first ever fully 3D platformer starring Kirby.
VGC’s Kirby and the Forgotten Land review called it the franchise’s most well rounded adventure to date, saying: “The platforming won’t give Mario any restless nights, but the exuberant creativity around it makes for a bold, buoyant adventure.”
This was then followed by a Switch 2 upgrade for the game called Kirby and the Forgotten Land: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World, which was released in August 2025.
As well as a visual upgrade for the more powerful hardware (including a bump from 30 frames per second to 60fps), it also added 12 new stages.
“Kirby and the Forgotten Land was already a fantastic game, and this new upgrade is worth the $20 asking price,” our Switch 2 Edition review said.
“The increase in resolution and switch to 60fps make it look and feel far more polished than before, and while the 12 new stages are essentially little more than an expansion pack, in this case more of the same thing isn’t a negative.”
