In an exclusive interview here on Windows Central, Blizzard president Johanna Faries spoke with our own Jennifer Young about a wide range of topics as the company approaches its 35th anniversary.
One of the most interesting questions focused on whether Blizzard’s iconic IP could receive the same kind of adaptation treatment as the hugely successful Fallout TV show.
During the interview, Jen boldly asked the president of Blizzard whether the company’s IP could receive the TV treatment following the huge success of the Fallout TV show.
The series recently concluded its second season, holds a 96% score from both viewers and critics on Rotten Tomatoes, boosted player counts for the games, and the third season is currently being written, according to Todd Howard.
When asked, Faries responded:
We just want to be responsible with the IP, right? We want to make sure that if we bring anything forward, whether it’s gameplay or whether it’s beyond that, that it represents what we want it to signify. On behalf of Blizzard, it’s got to be best in class… we have set the bar in many ways, in terms of creative excellence, and so that’s really what we’re going to focus in on

Faries also confirmed that “exciting conversations” are happening, but Blizzard is not willing to move forward unless it meets its own high standards. It leaves the door open for a Blizzard IP to be adapted.
This also would not be the first time Blizzard has stepped outside of video games. The 2016 live-action Warcraft movie came and went, and while I remember finding it quite enjoyable, it never received a sequel.
Blizzard has also told shorter animated stories within its universe, but nothing on the scale of a full TV show. Still, the fact that it is not impossible is exciting. And if you want to know more about what was discussed, I highly recommend reading the full interview.
