Battlefield 6 came and went almost as quickly as it arrived. While the game was genuinely fun at launch, its post-release struggles highlight just how difficult it is to maintain momentum in today’s market.
Taking too long between updates, especially in a short-form content era where attention spans move fast, can be the difference between sustaining a healthy player base and watching it gradually slip away.
Season two fails to spark a major return
Season 2 for Battlefield 6 launched last night, adding a new multiplayer map, fresh weapons, vehicles, gadgets, additional operators, and several quality-of-life fixes. REDSEC, Battlefield’s free-to-play battle royale mode, also received an update.
On paper, the whole season felt like it could have been a turning point for the franchise after its post-launch player decline, and the trailers for the update on YouTube both got around 500,000 views. The game needed a genuinely big update to bring players back. So far, however, the numbers suggest it has not delivered a substantial return.
It is easy to draw comparisons to other titles that have found post-launch success. ARC Raiders, for example, continues to perform strongly on Steam, reaching a peak of 215,000 players despite launching back in October 2025 (and also being a paid title).
A closer comparison might be Delta Force. It recently hit a 24-hour peak of 132,000 players, compared to Battlefield 6’s 92,000, and while it is free-to-play (like REDSEC), it appears to be scratching a similar itch despite mixed reviews on Steam.
While we are only comparing Steam numbers for now, we will not know whether Season 2 has made a meaningful impact on consoles until next week. For now, all we can do is wait and see if the game manages to find an uptick across the broader player base.
