Season 2 of Amazon’s fan-favorite Fallout TV show recently kicked off, and you know what that means: excitement for and interest in the legendary post-nuclear RPG series is flaring up just as it did when the first season debuted in 2024.
Notably, all that hype has come at the perfect time for those who haven’t bought the games yet, as the entire franchise is currently on sale for some of the lowest-ever prices I’ve ever seen its titles sell for. Indeed, with how steep the markdowns are — especially on PC, though Xbox has some killer deals, too — there’s never been a better time to jump into the Fallout games than right now.

Fallout: New Vegas in particular is the title I’d recommend playing the most right now. Not only is it generally considered to be the best Fallout game for its top-notch writing, excellent worldbuilding, rich and “crunchy” RPG systems, and its abundance of player freedom and choice, but many of its characters and locations directly tie into Season 2 of the show.
Really, though, I recommend playing all of them (except Tactics, which I’d argue you can skip and not miss out on much). I can understand bouncing off of 1 and 2 since their dated control schemes make them a bit tough to get into, but you should still give them a shot. Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 are far more modern, with Fallout 76 offering MMO-style multiplayer gameplay that uses Fallout 4 as a foundation.
Bethesda is largely focused on The Elder Scrolls 6, so it will be a long, long time until we see Fallout 5 — a game that will be directly affected by the events of the TV show. Even so, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t go back and experience all the awesome games that the show is an adaptation of, especially while they’re this cheap.
