You’ve Got ESU Mail!
Windows 10 users that opted to set up an online Microsoft account instead of a local account are now getting emails from Microsoft informing them of another year of Extended Security Updates. This must be a little painful for Microsoft who would much rather you switch to Windows 11; computer OEMs would also love you to upgrade. Sadly, with the state of the market that hardware upgrade will either run you an obnoxious amount of money, or your ‘new’ computer will actually be several generations old.
The Register also points out a surprising lack, there isn’t even any mention of Windows 11 in the email. Some email providers are marking the email as spam, which does seem reasonable as it’s rare for Microsoft to reach out via email unless you’ve opened a case with them. Unfortunately this will also likely lead to yet another phishing campaign, once those dastardly spammers realize what is going on they will likely craft a fake email asking users to log in to get their latest updates.
Nothing is easy in 2026.
