10 Years And 12TB Of Gaming History
There is a monstrous leak of Steam games on BitTorrent which seems to encompass everything Steam had in it’s Steam2 content distribution system. That spans 2003 through 2013, when Steam switched to a new distribution system which they use to this day. It contains not just public release builds, but also pre-release, prototype, and playtest versions from both Valve and third-party Steam publishers.
The leaker claims that the store was “obtained from a site that was 100% accessible to the public. It was there for everyone to download. No passwords. Nothing. Hidden in plain sight, but with no protection whatsoever.” That seems a bit of an oversight on Valve’s part but also means great news for gaming historians. The one thing that is not in the teraleak is any sign of Half-Life 3, so you won’t be playing a pre-release version of that game but there is plenty of Portal content you’ve never seen.
