eFootball’s latest season launches today, including a new mini-game made by PlatinumGames

The latest season for eFootball launches today, including a surprise contribution from PlatinumGames.

Version 6.0.0 of Konami‘s free-to-play game is rolling out today, to mark the start of the new 2026/27 season.

It includes new features including a Custom Tournament mode, and new gameplay improvements. The full patch notes can be found at the end of this article.

One of the more unique additions, however, is a new daily mini-game created by Bayonetta and Nier Automata studio PlatinumGames.

The game, which is called Daily Super Play, can be played once a day, rewarding the player with bonus content if they’re successful.

Each day, the mini-game chooses a player at random from a special player list, and runs an animation of them scoring a memorable goal.

Players have to press a button (or tap the screen on the mobile version) in time with an icon on the screen, similar to a rhythm action game, in order to properly perform the move.

The example shown during Konami’s eFootball Connect broadcast shows Lionel Messi dribbling the ball past five android-like players, before scoring a goal.

The new mini-game can be seen at around 5:30 in the below video:

In the past few years PlatinumGames has seen numerous personnel changes, with influential director Hideki Kamiya leaving in 2023 and at least five other directors – Abebe Tinari, Takahisa Taura, Yusuke Miyata, Kenji Saito, and Masaki Yamanaka – leaving the company after this.

Since then, the studio has been collaborating more with other developers. Last year’s Ninja Gaiden 4 was co-developed by Platinum and Team Ninja, while the studio also did additional work for Final Fantasy 15 and created a mini-game for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

The studio is also working on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, which is set to be published by PlatinumGames and appears to be replacing a previously announced The Last Ronin game announced by Embracer Group in 2023.
