Sony Is Reducing Support For Antennas And Set-Top Boxes, Just Because They Can
If you use a Sony Bravia built in 2023 or later and make use of an antenna, a set-top box or even just like the TV Guide you are going to notice a serious reduction in usability in the very near future. Channels you watch on an antenna will no longer have any program information and your personalized TV guide may only show recently watched channels access via antenna; not the whole selection of channels available. You also won’t see channel logos or thumbnail images for those channels, a minor annoyance but still a reduction in the features you were used to.
If your cable provider gave you a set-top box you will lose access to the menu you are used to, instead it is being replaced with a control menu. Sony didn’t provide any details on what that menu will have, but it is more than likely you will lose features there. Not only did Sony not mention why they are making those changes, nor did they respond to Ars Technica’s inquiries.
It is quite the gift to offer their customers.
