Early Access Starts In May(be)
Subnautica 2 is currently the most wishlisted game on Steam, and has been at the top quite some time. It has also been in the news quite a bit, but unfortunately not for it’s popularity. We’ve been following the saga for quite some time, as the publisher, Krafton, have been reneging on bonus promises and firing the three main executives in charge of development including Charlie Cleveland who was one of the co-founders of Unknown Worlds.. This lead to lawsuits and it seems we have a ruling, one in favour of the three fired executives. Krafton has of course disagreed with this but as it stands CEO Ted Kill, co-founder Charlie Cleveland, and technical director Max McGuire are all back in business.
The heart of the disagreement was the content of the game, with the three executives wanting to ensure Subnautica 2 was both well designed and full of content. Krafton executives were of the opinion that the game was good enough as it was and that it should be released before the developers feel it should be. Those devs have just added salt (water) to the wounds they inflicted by announcing the early release is scheduled for May. They also expressed hope that Krafton would accept the ruling and work together with Unknown Worlds in a productive way to ensure the launch goes smoothly.
We will have to wait a bit to find out if Subnautica 2 will sink or swim, here’s hoping it’s the latter!
