If Bazzite Doesn’t Do It For You
Along with the $1049 announcement from Valve comes a new version of SteamOS that is not just easier to find but has vastly expanded compatibility. There is a big caveat to this release though, NVIDIA support might not come this year so for now AMD users only need apply. You can try getting an RTX card up and running but it will be quite a lot of work, so you might want to hold off if that is the GPU you prefer.
SteamOS will handle all your updates and will include not just your Steam Library, but also comes with Steam Cloud, Steam Chat, Steam Game Recording and the rest of the extras baked into your Steam app. The interface is optimized for a Steam Controller but you can still enjoy a mouse and keyboard if you prefer. SteamOS is Linux based but thanks to the Proton compatibility layer game devs don’t need to worry about porting their game, it is taken care of. There are currently around 18,000 titles which work and there is a Verified program which will tell you if your game will work or not.
